US President Donald Trump stated on Monday that both Kyiv and Moscow will need to give up territory to bring an end to the conflict in Ukraine. He also mentioned that his upcoming discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin will reveal whether Putin is open to reaching a resolution. Prior to the summit between Trump and Putin in Alaska on Friday, European leaders and Ukrainian President Zelensky are scheduled to have conversations with Trump. There are concerns that the US might impose unfavorable terms on Ukraine. EU member states emphasized the importance of Ukrainians being able to determine their own future. The leaders of all EU nations, with the exception of Hungary, issued a joint statement yesterday stressing that significant negotiations can only occur in the presence of a ceasefire or a decrease in hostilities.
