At least four individuals lost their lives and over 30 sustained injuries in a tragic head-on collision involving two buses on the Dhaka-Pabna highway in the Sholabaria area of Pabna’s Santhia upazila earlier today. The Madhpur Highway Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md Mostafizur Rahman, confirmed that two individuals, a driver, and a helper, were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others passed away at the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Md Kamal Hossain, aged 40, the driver of Shahzadpur Travels; Mehedi Hasan, aged 28, the helper of Maasranga Paribahan; Alef Uddin, aged 35; and Alomgir Hossain, aged 36.
The tragic incident occurred around 7:30 am near the Sholabaria bridge when a Shahzadpur Travels bus headed towards Dhaka collided with a Maasranga Paribahan bus bound for Pabna. The Officer-in-Charge mentioned that both drivers lost control of their vehicles, resulting in the collision. Dr. Rafikul Islam, the Assistant Director of Pabna General Hospital, reported that 32 injured passengers were admitted to the hospital, with six of them being transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital due to critical conditions.
Following the accident, authorities, including the police and firefighters, promptly responded to the scene to rescue the victims and clear the debris. Normal traffic flow was reinstated after an hour-long operation to manage the situation.
