Jannik Sinner secured his spot in the final at the Vienna Open by defeating Alex de Minaur in straight sets. This victory marked Sinner’s 12th consecutive win against the Australian in their head-to-head encounters. The Italian’s next opponent for the title will be either Alexander Zverev or Lorenzo Musetti.
At 24 years old, Sinner is aiming for his fourth title of the year, having already clinched victories at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and in Beijing earlier this month. He is currently in a close competition with Carlos Alcaraz for the year-end number one ranking. Both players are scheduled to compete in the final Masters 1000 event of the season in Paris next week.
Despite experiencing cramps and retiring from the Shanghai Masters three weeks ago, Sinner has shown remarkable form in Vienna, not dropping a set on his way to the final. The Italian had not faced a break point in the tournament until his match against De Minaur.
In the semi-final, Sinner dominated the opening set by swiftly winning the first four games. Although De Minaur managed to break back, Sinner maintained his composure to claim the set. In the second set, Sinner briefly stumbled by losing serve in the sixth game but quickly regained control, securing his 20th consecutive victory on indoor hard courts.
