Russia’s chief diplomat issued a strong warning against any hostile actions, following US President Donald Trump’s endorsement of shooting down Russian aircraft breaching Nato airspace. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated at the UN General Assembly that accusations of Russia plotting an attack on Nato and EU nations are baseless. He emphasized that while Russia has no such intentions, any aggression towards the country will be met with a firm response.
Several Nato member countries have reported instances of Russian jets and drones violating their European airspace in recent weeks, alleging that Moscow is testing the alliance’s boundaries. When asked about the possibility of Nato shooting down Russian planes trespassing its airspace, Trump expressed agreement.
Lavrov commended Trump for his approach, noting that despite his public remarks about Putin, he has refrained from enacting promised economic sanctions on Russia. Lavrov highlighted the current US administration’s willingness to contribute to resolving the Ukrainian crisis and fostering practical cooperation without ideological biases.
