A bomb and gun assault at a BNP office adjacent to Khulna University of Engineering and Technology’s IT Gate on Sunday evening resulted in the tragic death of a retired schoolteacher and left two others wounded. The deceased victim was identified as Imdadul Islam, while the injured individuals were named as Mamun Sheikh, 45, who serves as the organizing secretary of Jogipol union BNP, and Mizanur Rahman, a union parishad member, as confirmed by local law enforcement.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident transpired at approximately 9:00 pm while Mamun Sheikh was present with party affiliates at the BNP office. A group of unidentified attackers suddenly launched two explosive devices and commenced gunfire before swiftly fleeing the area. Regrettably, Imdadul, who had visited the office to collect donations for a mosque event, was caught in the blast and succumbed to his injuries on the scene. The wounded were promptly transported to Khulna Medical College Hospital for medical attention.
Kazi Mizanur Rahman, the president of Khan Jahan Ali Thana BNP, characterized the assault as “preplanned.” Sheikh Khairul Bashar, the officer-in-charge of Arongghata Police Station, conveyed that law enforcement authorities are actively pursuing the culprits involved in the attack.
