The next movie in the “Kakababu” film series has been revealed with a fresh title — “Bhoyongkor Sundor” — currently in production and expected to hit cinemas in 2027. This installment will bring back the popular adventure character Kakababu, originally created by renowned Bengali writer Sunil Gangopadhyay.
Renowned Indian actor Prosenjit Chatterjee is all set to reprise his role as Raja Roy Chowdhury, famously known as Kakababu. The producers promise that this new chapter will continue the franchise’s signature mix of adventure, mystery, and suspense. The title, loosely meaning “Beautiful and Deadly”, suggests a storyline where beauty hides darker secrets.
Taking place in Kashmir, the film will showcase snow-covered mountains, serene blue lakes, and picturesque valleys, offering a blend of stunning visuals and mysterious plotlines. The film’s pre-production phase is already in progress. The decision to expedite this latest installment follows the commercial and critical triumph of the fourth film, “Bijoynagarer Hire,” released in January.
This time, the movie will be helmed by director Chandrasish Ray, a young filmmaker expected to introduce a fresh visual style and pace to the long-standing series. Although Prosenjit’s comeback is confirmed, the casting for Santu and other pivotal roles is yet to be officially disclosed. Recently honored with India’s Padma Shri award, Prosenjit expressed his sentimental attachment to the character, stating, “Kakababu is not just a detective figure; he embodies an adventurous fantasy deeply rooted in the Bengali upbringing. Each new installment feels like a tribute to Sunil Gangopadhyay.”
