Bangladesh’s left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan made history by claiming nine wickets in an innings during a first-class cricket match in the NCL between Mymensingh and Sylhet at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. This achievement marked the sixth time a bowler has managed to secure nine wickets in a single innings in domestic first-class cricket in the country.
Rakibul Hasan successfully dismissed all Sylhet batters except for centurion Shykat Ali, who displayed exceptional resilience by scoring 175 runs off 232 deliveries, including 19 boundaries and eight sixes. Shykat’s impressive innings included a crucial partnership of 148 runs with Ebadot Hossain, who contributed with a valuable 58 runs off 110 balls, achieving his maiden fifty in first-class cricket.
Despite Shykat’s remarkable performance, he was eventually dismissed by pacer Shohidul Islam, caught at short third-man. Following Shykat’s departure, Rakibul claimed his ninth wicket by dismissing Ebadot, who was stumped, leading to Sylhet being bowled out for 489 and giving Mymensingh an 88-run lead in the first innings.
Rakibul Hasan ended the match with impressive figures of 9 for 168. Prior to him, only Sunzamul Islam, Saqlain Sajib, Mosharraf Hossain, and the experienced Abdur Razzak had achieved the feat of taking nine wickets in a domestic first-class match in Bangladesh. Abdur Razzak, in particular, accomplished this feat twice, against Chittagong in 2012 (9 for 84) and Dhaka Metro in 2014 (9 for 91).
