Prachyanat, a leading theatre company in Bangladesh, has unveiled its new executive committee for the term spanning 2025 to 2027, showcasing its ongoing dedication to innovative stagecraft, education, and global partnerships.
During the recent general assembly on September 24, Prachyanat introduced several significant appointments to enrich its management and educational programs. Notable stage and screen performer Shatabdi Wadud was named the Chief Secretary of the theatre group, while esteemed acting expert Sahana Rahman Sumi was appointed as the Secretary of the Prachyanat School of Acting and Training. Additionally, Arif Reza Khan was designated as the Finance Secretary, Bin-e Amin as the Information Technology and Communications Secretary, and Tanji Kun as the Production and Publications Secretary, highlighting the organization’s focus on operational efficiency and artistic merit.
Established in February 1997, Prachyanat has garnered praise for productions like “Circus Circus,” “Koinya,” and “A Man for All Seasons,” along with a diverse array of subsequent works such as “Gondar,” “Mandar,” and “Agun Jatra.” The company’s repertoire blends traditional art forms, music, and political theatre, consistently pushing the boundaries of Bangladeshi stage performance.
Prachyanat has actively engaged in international collaborations, including co-productions like “Babarnama” with the Japan Foundation, “Come On Bangladesh: Just Do It” with the Royal Danish Theatre, and “Butterfly Butterfly” with overseas partners. The company’s outreach efforts encompass initiatives like Open Theatre, Prachyanat for Children, Theatre Lab Productions, a research unit, a musical ensemble, and the annual “Uthan Natok Mela.”
Central to Prachyanat’s framework is the Prachyanat School of Acting and Design, founded in 2001 as the nation’s premier independent theatre and design institute. With 48 graduating cohorts and the ongoing 49th batch, each group presents an original production as part of its educational curriculum.
In a released statement, Prachyanat expressed its objective to solidify its operations by establishing a self-sufficient “theatre hub,” aiming to expand its role as a creative laboratory and training platform for upcoming theatre professionals.
