Acclaimed photographer Dr. Shahidul Alam and numerous international activists who were on board the Freedom Flotilla have been moved to Ketziot Prison in Israel’s Negev Desert, as confirmed by Drik in a recent Facebook update. The transfer was carried out following the detention of journalists, medical personnel, human rights advocates, and crew members from the flotilla, who were forcefully transported to Ashdod port before being relocated to the desert prison, according to reports from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Adalah – The Legal Centre for Arab Minority Rights in Israel.
The detainees recounted instances of violence they experienced post the seizure of the ships by Israeli forces, as per a statement from Drik. The organization highlighted the ongoing violence faced by Palestinians daily, emphasizing the harsh realities that many endure. Currently, rights groups estimate that approximately 10,000 Palestinians are held in Ketziot Prison, making a plea for the immediate release of all detained activists from the Freedom Flotilla and urging for the liberation of Palestinian political prisoners.
The statement concluded with a powerful message declaring solidarity with the Palestinian cause, asserting that “Palestine will be free,” signaling unwavering support from Bangladesh towards the plight of Palestinians.
