Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, “One Battle After Another,” had a stellar opening weekend at the global box office, raking in an impressive $48.5 million. The movie, distributed by Warner Bros and featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, exceeded expectations by earning $26.1 million across 74 international markets.

The film’s debut marks Anderson’s most successful launch to date in 68 territories, including key markets like France, Germany, Italy, the UK, Australia, Brazil, and Mexico. “One Battle After Another” is outperforming several of Anderson’s previous major releases, including “Argo” (+104%), “Sinners” (+55%), “Killers of the Flower Moon” (+10%), and “The Departed” (+8%).

Receiving glowing reviews in France, with critics giving it a 4.7/5 rating and audiences on AlloCiné rating it 4.1/5, the film has set new records across Europe and Latin America. In six Latin American markets, it has already become Anderson’s highest-grossing film. Notably, the Middle East market also exceeded expectations, contributing $2.6 million to the film’s global box office success.

The top five international markets for “One Battle After Another” include the UK ($3.4 million), France ($3.4 million), Germany ($2 million), Italy ($1.4 million), and Saudi Arabia ($1.3 million). The film is set to release in South Korea on October 1, followed by Japan and Turkey on October 3, and China on October 17. IMAX screenings accounted for $7.5 million globally, with $2.9 million coming from 378 international screens.

In other box office news, Warner Bros hit a milestone this weekend by surpassing $4 billion in global earnings, boosted by the success of New Line’s “The Conjuring: Last Rites,” which added $15.4 million from 76 markets. The film’s international total now stands at $274.4 million, with a worldwide gross of $436 million.

On the anime front, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle” continues its impressive performance, crossing the $600 million mark worldwide and ranking as the 8th highest-grossing film of the year. Sony reported that the film has grossed $605.4 million globally, with $305.4 million coming from Crunchyroll/Sony territories. Over the weekend, it added $19.2 million to its earnings, including $12.1 million from 62 international markets.

Key overseas markets for “Infinity Castle” include Mexico ($16.6 million, now the highest-grossing anime film in the country), Germany ($12.5 million), France ($12.3 million), India ($9 million, also the highest-grossing anime film in the country), and the UK ($8.4 million).
