The incident sparked a social media frenzy as images and details spread, prompting swift rebuke from prominent figures like Jaya Ahsan, Peya Jannatul, Niloy Alamgir, and Tawsif Mahbub, who all called for severe punishment for those responsible.
Expressing her outrage on Facebook, Jaya Ahsan demanded strict consequences for the perpetrator, labeling them as cruel and mentally unstable. Niloy Alamgir highlighted the suffering of the mother dog left beside her deceased pups, urging readers to empathize with the tragic fate of the helpless animals. The call for justice reverberated across various platforms.
In response to mounting public pressure, local officials took action days after the distressing discovery near the Upazila Parishad auditorium pond. The Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Moniruzzaman, announced the removal of the implicated government official, Hasanur Rahman Nayon, from his official residence as a disciplinary measure. Investigations revealed that the puppies had been deliberately killed before being discarded.
Nayon admitted involvement in the incident, stating that his wife had instructed him to handle the puppies due to their children’s safety concerns, but he expressed regret over the tragic outcome. The community disclosed that a mother dog in Nayon’s compound had recently given birth to the litter, leading to the harrowing discovery in the pond, triggering an outpouring of grief.
The local administration has entrusted the Department of Livestock Services with the care of the mother dog, while law enforcement is actively probing the case under anti-animal cruelty statutes. Actress Peya Jannatul emphasized that being associated with a government official does not excuse such callous behavior, applauding the swift arrest made in connection with the incident.
