Nvidia is in the final stages of securing a $30 billion investment in OpenAI as part of a fundraising effort targeting over $100 billion, as per a recent report from Reuters citing an insider source. This investment is set to value the creator of ChatGPT at around $830 billion, making it one of the largest private fundraising rounds on record. SoftBank and Amazon are also anticipated to be part of this funding round, as previously noted by Reuters.
This new agreement will supersede a previous commitment made public in September, where Nvidia had planned to invest up to $100 billion to assist OpenAI in utilizing its chips within data centers, as reported by the Financial Times. The original plan included an initial investment of $10 billion, contingent on a final agreement being reached for OpenAI to procure Nvidia systems. However, negotiations have extended beyond the initial timeline, leading to delays, according to the Reuters source.
The primary objective of OpenAI with the infusion of new capital is to acquire Nvidia’s chips, crucial for the training and implementation of its AI models. When approached for comment by Reuters, Nvidia declined to provide a statement.
