The National Sports Council (NSC) has directed ad-hoc committees of 49 sports federations and associations to promptly organize elections within their respective bodies. A circular signed by director (Sports) Mohammad Aminul Ehsan urged all ad-hoc committees to initiate their elections without delay.
Following the ousting of the Awami League government during a mass uprising on August 5, 2025, the Ministry of Youth and Sports disbanded all elected committees of district and divisional sports associations on August 21, 2024. Subsequently, NSC replaced the leadership of national sports bodies with ad-hoc committees, with the most recent formation being for the Bangladesh Women’s Sports Association.
Many voting councillors in the federation and association elections hail from district and divisional sports associations currently under ad-hoc management. Notably, the NSC has not mandated district and divisional bodies to proceed with their elections.
Among the 52 sports federations and associations, the Bangladesh Cricket Board and Bangladesh Football Federation have successfully conducted their elections. The International Teakwondo Federation was exempted from the NSC directive as per the official statement.
