NCP Spokesperson Criticizes Election Commission on Party Symbols

-

The National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, criticized the Election Commission’s (EC) recent communication on the use of party symbols in local government elections, deeming it as misleading. In a Facebook post today, he clarified that party symbols will not be utilized in any local government election, including city elections. Asif highlighted that amendments to relevant laws were made during his advisory role in the interim government, following the Reform Commission’s suggestions, to allow local government elections without the use of party symbols. He emphasized that participation in local government elections can occur without party symbols and nominations, based on the updated regulations. Asif expressed disappointment in the EC’s statement, indicating that the reforms were implemented to meet the expectations of political parties, civil society, and the general public. He urged the EC to thoroughly review the laws related to local government elections before issuing further statements on the matter.
