Malayalam actor Mohanlal is set to be bestowed with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor in Indian cinema. The 71st National Film Awards ceremony, scheduled for September 23 in New Delhi, will be the platform for him to receive this accolade.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of India revealed that, following the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, Mohanlal has been chosen as the recipient of the esteemed 2023 Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Described as a legendary figure in the industry, Mohanlal, known for his roles as an actor, director, and producer, has been recognized for his significant influence on Indian cinema, inspiring multiple generations.
Mohanlal kickstarted his acting journey back in 1978 with the movie “Thiranottam” and gained recognition in 1980 for his performance as the lead antagonist in “Manjil Virinja Pookkal.” Noteworthy works in his repertoire include “TP Balagopalan MA” (1986), which earned him his inaugural Kerala State Film Award, and the iconic comedy “Nadodikkattu” (1987).
His filmography is rich with box office hits like “Kireedam,” “Manichithrathazhu,” “Bharatham,” “Drishyam,” “Lucifer,” “Pulimurugan,” “Drishyam 2,” and his most recent release, “L2: Empuraan.”
Throughout his illustrious career, Mohanlal has garnered numerous awards, including five National Film Awards and two Padma awards from the Government of India. In 2022, veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Lifetime Achievement Award.
Fans can anticipate Mohanlal’s upcoming film “Hridayapoorvam” scheduled for release on JioHotstar on September 26.
