A total of 230 flights have been canceled at Dhaka airport since February 28 due to the closure of airspace by several Middle Eastern countries amidst heightened security concerns. Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan shut down their airspace on February 28, resulting in disruptions to international flight services.
Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka saw the cancellation of 23 flights on February 28, 40 on March 1, 46 on March 2, 39 on March 3, 28 on March 4, and 36 on March 5. Additionally, after 12:00 am local time on March 6, 18 more flights were canceled. These included four Kuwait Airways (KU) flights, four Jazeera Airways (J9) flights, six Air Arabia (G9) flights to and from Sharjah in the UAE, and four Qatar Airways (QR) flights to and from Qatar.
Airport authorities attributed the cancellations to ongoing airspace restrictions and operational challenges in the Gulf region.
