“Microsoft Releases Emergency Updates to Fix Windows Bugs”

-

Microsoft has recently rolled out a set of emergency out-of-band (OOB) updates for Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server to fix issues caused by its January 2026 security patches. One of the problems disrupted access to cloud-based virtual desktops. This bug impacted systems running Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server by preventing access to Microsoft 365 Cloud PC sessions. After installing the January Patch Tuesday updates, some users faced credential prompt failures when trying to connect through remote access tools.

The issue specifically affected certain Windows builds utilizing the Windows App for remote desktop connections, including setups like Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365, where users couldn’t sign in. Another problem tackled by the OOB updates impacted a subset of Windows 11 version 23H2 devices with Secure Launch enabled. As per a Microsoft blog post, these systems couldn’t shut down or enter hibernation after installing the January 13 security update, instead of automatically restarting.

Microsoft mentioned that the OOB updates aim to restore normal operations for affected users and organizations. These updates are being released outside the standard update schedule due to the significance of the issues at hand.
