“Meta Introduces Novel Content-Protection Tool for Creators”

-

Facebook has unveiled a novel content-protection feature aimed at assisting creators in safeguarding their unique reels on both Facebook and Instagram, as per a recent blog post by Meta. The tool, found within the content section of the Professional dashboard on Facebook, automatically shields any original reel posted by a creator upon enrollment in the program. Meta mentioned that the tool continuously monitors both platforms for matches, either full or partial, to protected reels, and notifies creators when their content appears elsewhere without authorization.

Creators deemed eligible by Meta can then assess each identified match and decide whether to monitor it, prevent it from being viewed, or relinquish the claim entirely. A monitored reel may exhibit an “original by” attribution tag linking back to the creator’s profile, while blocked reels are withdrawn from public view without invoking disciplinary measures against the account reposting the content.

Moreover, Meta has introduced an “allow list” for creators desiring to authorize specific accounts to reuse their content. The company highlighted the presence of protective measures to deter misuse, such as the ability to contest claims of original content ownership by others and to lodge copyright takedown requests via its reporting system.

The tool’s automatic availability is being gradually extended to creators enrolled in Facebook’s Content Monetization program who meet the set originality criteria, as well as to those already utilizing Meta’s Rights Manager, a suite of copyright management tools. Other qualifying users can apply for access via the Professional Dashboard.
