“Man Poses as Student, Apprehended by Chittagong University”

-

A man was apprehended by students from the Economics Department at Chittagong University (CU) on Wednesday evening after it was discovered that he had been masquerading as a student of the department. The man, known as Minhaj, had been presenting himself as a third-year student of the 2022–23 academic session and was caught near the station area around 7:00pm.

Minhaj, a resident of Raozan upazila in Chattogram, is employed at RH Hospital and Diagnostic Centre in Fatikchhari. Upon searching him, students found a hospital ID card, over a hundred prescriptions, and various medical testing tools in his possession.

According to Fidiya Kabir Srijita, a third-year Economics student, Minhaj had been trying to establish connections with multiple students, including females, and had displayed inappropriate behavior. She mentioned that he had been seen associating with different candidates during the Cucsu election, claiming to be a CU student. Srijita stated that Minhaj had been under observation for some time, and when spotted at a food stall near the station area, he was identified and handed over to the proctorial body.

Another student, Siam Ahmed, revealed that Minhaj was active on social media but had never attended any classes. Ahmed mentioned that Minhaj’s claim of having a student ID number of 215 contradicted the actual count of 152 students in the batch, leading to suspicions raised to the department and proctorial team.

CU Assistant Proctor Nurul Hamid Kanan confirmed the detainment of Minhaj, clarifying that he had no affiliation with the university. Kanan stated that Minhaj had been monitored for sending inappropriate messages to several female students on social media and attempting to connect with various student organizations, promising legal actions in accordance with the law.

Following this, CU authorities transferred Minhaj to Hathazari Police Station via the university police outpost.
