Madhuban Cineplex, a modern cinema in Bogura, has officially shut down. The closure was announced on Thursday night in a heartfelt Facebook post directed at its loyal patrons, signaling the end of an era for the local entertainment industry.
Earlier in the day, owner Roknuzzaman Yunus had suggested the closure in a statement to Channel i Online. Later, an official post confirmed the news, citing various reasons for the decision. The post mentioned challenges such as a lack of films meeting audience expectations, government apathy, high electricity costs, employee salaries, and other operational difficulties as contributing factors to the closure. The statement expressed gratitude to viewers for their support over the years, acknowledging that the decision to cease operations was difficult but necessary due to sustained financial strain.
Since its launch in 2021 with 336 seats, Madhuban Cineplex had been a popular venue for blockbuster movies like “Poran,” “Hawa,” “Priyotoma,” “Toofan,” and the recent hit “Borbaad.” The cinema was known for hosting late-night shows to accommodate families traveling from distant locations.
Despite occasional successes, Madhuban Cineplex faced challenges during non-festive periods, especially following the prohibition on screening foreign films. The financial losses accumulated over time, leading to the unfortunate closure of the cinema, which had become a cultural cornerstone for movie enthusiasts in Bogura.
