“I don’t want to be seen as a burden. I need to ensure I am in good physical shape and capable of supporting and adding value to the team,” Messi stated.
As the captain of Inter Miami, Messi highlighted the unique challenges of the Major League Soccer (MLS) schedule compared to European leagues. He noted the differences in the MLS season structure, including a preseason and fewer matches leading up to the World Cup. “I will evaluate my fitness daily to determine if I am truly at the level I aspire to be and can actively participate,” Messi explained.
Regarding the prospect of another World Cup appearance, Messi described it as a “special” opportunity. He emphasized the significance of representing his national team in major tournaments, especially after previous successes. In the meantime, the Argentine captain has joined the national squad in Alicante as they prepare for an upcoming friendly match against Angola. The friendly is scheduled to take place on Friday at 10 pm, Bangladesh Time, in Luanda.
