-

Another lawsuit has been initiated against nearly 600 individuals regarding the assault on the shrine of Nurul Haque, commonly referred to as “Nurul Pagla,” in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari on September 5. Shirin Begum, Nurul’s sister-in-law, filed a report today with a court in Goalanda against 96 identified persons and approximately 400 to 500 unidentified individuals. Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamjid Hossain has instructed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe the incident after acknowledging the complaint, as stated by the plaintiff’s attorney, Shariful Islam. The main suspect in the case is Khondkar Abdul Mohit, the former principal of Government Goalanda Kamrul Islam College.

According to law enforcement officials, a mob targeted Nurul Pagla’s shrine on September 5, dug up his body due to alleged improper burial procedures, and later set the body on fire near Padmar Mor on the Dhaka-Khulna highway. The attack resulted in injuries to at least 50 individuals, including 10 to 12 police officers, with one of Nurul’s followers, Rasel Molla, losing his life due to injuries sustained. Earlier, Rasel’s father, Azad Molla, lodged a lawsuit with Goalanda Ghat Police Station against around 3,500 to 4,000 unknown persons, accusing them of murder, arson, theft, destruction of property, and physical assault during the incident. Furthermore, the police have initiated a separate case concerning the assault on law enforcement officers and damage to vehicles, naming approximately 3,000 to 3,500 unidentified suspects. Law enforcement authorities have apprehended 16 individuals thus far in connection with these events.
