Director Piplu R Khan’s film “Jaya Aar Sharmin,” set in the pandemic era, is scheduled to debut on Chorki at midnight on September 25. The movie, starring Jaya Ahsan and Mohsina Akter, delves into the deep connection between two women—an actress and her domestic helper—confined within the walls of a home during the Covid-19 lockdown. Their bond evolves quietly but faces strains amid the challenges of isolation and changing dynamics.
Initially released in cinemas last May, “Jaya Aar Sharmin” includes Tanjim Saiyara Totini in a special appearance. Piplu collaborated with Nusrat Islam Mati in crafting the story, screenplay, and dialogue.
Sharing her thoughts on the project, Jaya Ahsan described it as a unique experience in her career. She highlighted the precautions taken on set, such as actors personally washing, drying, and ironing costumes for safety. Jaya emphasized the authenticity of the film, noting that viewers found it genuine and true to the life they lived during that period.
Mohsina Akter commended Piplu for his willingness to embrace improvisation, a rarity among directors. She appreciated the collaborative process in shaping scenes, emphasizing the profound lessons learned during the pandemic. Mohsina underscored the importance of cherishing relationships and dedicating time to family.
Filmed in a serene corner of Dhaka’s vibrant Banani district, the movie relies on live sound without dubbing, enhancing its immediacy and realism.
