An escalated military campaign by Israel resulted in the deaths of 61 individuals in various locations throughout Gaza. Simultaneously, Hamas deliberated over a peace proposal put forth by US President Donald Trump to resolve the enduring conflict in the Palestinian region.
Eyewitnesses recounted intense bombings in Gaza City, while Israel’s defense minister, Israel Katz, emphasized the tightening of control around the city. Katz urged Gaza residents to move south to distance themselves from Hamas affiliates concentrated in Gaza City, cautioning that those who remained would be viewed as terrorists. The military strategically secured the Netzarim corridor, severing the connection between central and western Gaza, effectively isolating the northern region.
In response to the unfolding events, the International Committee of the Red Cross temporarily halted its operations in Gaza City due to the heightened military activities. Hamas condemned Katz’s statements as a prelude to further war crimes committed by the Israeli army.
Concurrently, Hamas reviewed Trump’s peace initiative endorsed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The proposal outlined terms including a ceasefire, release of hostages, disarmament of Hamas, and gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Hamas deliberated on potential modifications to the plan, seeking international assurances for a complete Israeli withdrawal and compliance with the ceasefire terms.
Amid the escalating tensions, conflicting opinions within Hamas emerged regarding the acceptance of Trump’s proposal. The group faced a deadline set by Trump, who warned of severe consequences if the plan was rejected.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s retaliatory actions have resulted in the deaths of at least 66,148 individuals in Gaza, as reported by the local health ministry. While the figures do not differentiate between civilians and combatants, a significant portion of the casualties comprises women and children.
