Iran Signals Willingness to Compromise in Nuclear Talks

-

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi expressed Iran’s openness to considering compromises in order to achieve a nuclear agreement with the United States, emphasizing that discussions on lifting sanctions should be part of the negotiations. Iran has indicated its willingness to engage in talks regarding restrictions on its nuclear activities in exchange for the removal of sanctions, while emphasizing that the nuclear issue should not be linked to other matters such as missile programs.

Takht-Ravanchi confirmed that a second round of nuclear discussions is scheduled to take place in Geneva, following recent talks between Tehran and Washington in Oman. Although the initial talks showed some positive progress, Takht-Ravanchi noted that it is premature to make definitive assessments at this stage.

In a separate development, President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly agreed during a meeting at the White House to intensify efforts to decrease Iran’s oil exports to China. The move is part of the broader strategy to apply maximum pressure on Iran, particularly concerning its oil sales to China, according to sources familiar with the matter.

In response to the report, China’s foreign ministry emphasized the importance of normal cooperation among countries within the bounds of international law, underscoring the need to respect and safeguard such collaborations. With China being a major importer of Iranian oil, any reduction in this trade relationship would have significant implications for Iran’s oil revenue, impacting the country’s economy.

Meanwhile, concerns have arisen over the well-being of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, who was transferred to a prison in northern Iran without prior notice, as reported by her family. Mohammadi, a prominent human rights activist awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023 for her longstanding advocacy work, was detained in December after criticizing Iran’s clerical leadership. She recently went on a hunger strike and was hospitalized before being returned to prison.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee expressed deep dismay over reports of alleged physical abuse and severe mistreatment of Mohammadi during her arrest and detention, highlighting the need for urgent attention to her situation.
