India’s vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been admitted to a hospital in Sydney following a rib-cage injury that led to internal bleeding, as per reports. The injury occurred during the third ODI against Australia when Iyer took a catch and fell on his left lower rib area.
Scans revealed a spleen laceration and bleeding in the rib-cage area. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mentioned that medical experts in Sydney and India are closely monitoring his condition.
According to a BCCI statement, Iyer sustained the injury while fielding in the third ODI against Australia on October 25, 2025. He is undergoing treatment, is in stable condition, and is recovering well.
The BCCI also stated that Iyer was readmitted to the hospital due to the diagnosis of rib cage bleeding. The Indian team doctor will remain in Sydney to oversee his daily progress.
