“India’s 20-Toss Losing Streak Makes Cricket History”

-

India’s streak of misfortune at the toss continued in the second ODI in Raipur as South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, opted to bowl first. This marked India’s 20th consecutive ODI without winning a toss, setting a new record in men’s international cricket.

The unlucky run began during the 2023 World Cup final in Ahmedabad when Australia won the toss against India. Since then, in various bilateral series and tournaments, luck has eluded India at the toss every time.

Statistically, the chance of losing 20 tosses in a row is 1 in 1,048,576 or 0.00000095. Despite the odds, India has managed to achieve this rare feat.

Previously, the Netherlands held the record for the most consecutive toss losses with an 11-match streak from March 2011 to August 2013. India has now surpassed this record by almost doubling the tally, setting a new and unprecedented benchmark.

India’s captain, KL Rahul, lightheartedly commented on the situation, stating, “Honestly, toss is the most pressure I’ve had. Been practicing, but it’s not working.”

The Indian team will be eager for this peculiar trend to come to an end soon.
