“India Dominates 24th Asian Archery Championships”

The Teer 24th Asian Archery Championships concluded on Friday with athletes representing 30 nations participating in the event. The competition, which commenced on November 8 at the National Stadium, wrapped up at the Army Stadium.

India excelled as the top-performing country in both individual and team categories, securing a total of 10 medals – 6 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze. South Korea followed with 2 gold medals, 4 silvers, and 4 bronzes, while the host country Bangladesh claimed a silver and a bronze.

The final day commenced with the recurve women’s team final, where South Korea clinched the gold medal with a 6-0 set-point victory (54-52, 57-55, 56-51) over Chinese Taipei. The gold-winning Korean team comprised Jang Min-hee, Kim Surin, and Nam Su-hyeon. Malaysia had secured the bronze medal earlier by defeating Uzbekistan 6-0.

In the thrilling recurve men’s team final, South Korea and India battled it out, ending in a tie at 4-4 across four sets (56-56, 56-56, 57-51, 57-53). The match proceeded to a tie-break, with India emerging victorious in the shoot-off 29+ to 29, due to India’s arrow landing closer to the inner 10. The Indian gold-medal team included Yashdeep Sanjay Bhoge, Atanu Das, and Rahul. Uzbekistan had secured the bronze on the previous day.

Chinese Taipei claimed the gold medal in the recurve mixed team final with a comfortable 6-2 set-point win (35-36, 37-36, 36-34, 35-34) over Uzbekistan. The winning pair for Chinese Taipei were Li Tsai-Chi and Tai Yu-Hsuan.

In the recurve mixed team bronze-medal match, South Korea’s duo of Jang Min-hee and Seo Mingi secured a 6-0 victory over India.

During the second session, India’s Ankita Bhakat secured the gold medal in the women’s recurve individual event by defeating South Korea’s Nam Su-hyeon 7-3 in set points (29-27, 26-26, 26-28, 29–28, 29-28). In the bronze medal match, India’s Deepika Kumari emerged victorious by 6-5 set points in a tiebreaker against compatriot Sangita. Both athletes shot 10s in the shoot-off, but Deepika’s shot was closer to the center.

The event concluded with the recurve men’s individual final featuring an all-India face-off, where Dhiraj Bommadevara defeated compatriot Rahul 6-2 in set points (28-28, 29-26, 28-28, 28-26) to claim the gold. South Korea’s Seo Mingi secured the bronze medal by beating compatriot Jang Chaehwan 7-1 in set points.

Additionally, the Adviser for Youth and Sports, Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan, announced a cash reward of Tk 100,000 for each of the three medal winners from the Bangladesh team. Bonna Akter and Himu bachhar won a silver in the compound mixed team event, while Kulsum Akter Moni secured a bronze medal in the women’s individual compound event.
