“Independent Candidate Congratulates Rival Before Official Results”

-

In the Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa-Dashmina) constituency, independent candidate Hasan Mamun has extended public congratulations to Nurul Haque Nur, the Gono Odhikar Parishad President and BNP alliance-backed candidate, even though the unofficial results have not been announced by the returning officer’s office yet.

On Thursday around 9:00 pm, Hasan Mamun, running independently with the “horse” symbol, took to Facebook to congratulate Nur, referring to him as the “newly elected member of parliament from Patuakhali-3”.

“Congratulations Nurul Haque Nur, newly elected MP, Patuakhali-3,” Mamun posted.

Prior to this, Mamun had been expelled from BNP for breaching party rules by contesting the election independently against the alliance’s decision.

Even though the returning officer’s office is yet to declare the results for the constituency, Shahidul Islam, the Gono Odhikar Parishad central publicity secretary and coordinator of Nur’s election monitoring team, stated that initial counts from all 80 polling stations indicate Nur is leading in the race.

As per the monitoring team’s data, Nur, running with the “truck” symbol, garnered 73,934 votes, while Hasan Mamun received 47,930 votes, placing Nur in the lead by 26,004 votes.
