The 13th installment of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup has not only brought thrilling action on the field but has also seen a surge in viewership numbers, as per data co-released by the ICC and JioHotstar.
The initial 13 games of the competition attracted over 60 million viewers, a five-fold increase compared to the 2022 event. Moreover, the total watch time skyrocketed to 7 billion minutes, marking a 12-fold rise from the previous edition.
The India-Pakistan match on October 5 in Colombo made history by becoming the most-watched women’s international cricket game ever, drawing a massive 28.4 million viewers and generating 1.87 billion minutes of watch time.
The historic India-Australia rivalry also reached new heights on October 12 in Visakhapatnam, with 4.8 million peak concurrent viewers on JioHotstar, setting a new record for women’s cricket.
Television ratings further emphasized the increasing fan engagement with women’s cricket, with the India-Pakistan encounter emerging as the highest-rated league-stage match in ICC Women’s ODI World Cup history.
The first 11 matches, which included India’s matches against Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and South Africa, collectively reached an audience of 72 million, a remarkable 166% surge from the previous edition. Additionally, the total viewing minutes surged by 327% to 6.3 billion.
India’s victory over Sri Lanka in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 opener was fueled by a strong performance from Deepti Sharma, supported by contributions from Sneh Rana and Amanjot Kaur.
As the tournament nears its crucial stages and each game involving India becomes pivotal, the World Cup continues to set new standards in presenting and promoting women’s cricket in India.
