Gaza’s Hamas leadership has voiced their opposition to the recent UN resolution proposing the deployment of an international force in the region, citing a failure to acknowledge the Palestinians’ demands and rights. The Islamist group stated that the resolution does not align with the political and humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people. They particularly objected to the provision for an international force tasked with disarming Palestinian factions in Gaza. The group expressed strong disapproval of what they viewed as an imposition of international control over the Gaza Strip, a move rejected by the Palestinian population and its associated groups. The UN Security Council approved a resolution on Monday, backed by the US, in support of President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace initiative, which includes the deployment of an international force and outlines a path to a potential Palestinian state. The resolution received 13 affirmative votes, characterized by the US as a significant step forward, with Russia and China abstaining from voting, and no countries vetoing the decision.
