A potential new political coalition is set to be introduced today, comprising the National Citizen Party, Amar Bangladesh (AB Party), United Peoples (UP) Bangladesh, and Rashtro Songskar Andolon. The announcement is anticipated to take place at 3:00 pm at the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Convention Centre in Shahbagh, as indicated by NCP sources following a recent meeting.
The alliance, known as “Gonotantrik Songskar Jote,” was revealed by Sarjis Alam, the chief organizer of NCP (north). Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan, the AB Party chairman, mentioned that the formation of the coalition is nearing finalization earlier in the day.
Ali Ahsan Zunaid, the UP Bangladesh Convener, confirmed that NCP, AB Party, Rashtro Songskar Andolon, and UP Bangladesh have come to an agreement, with discussions deemed positive and ongoing with other parties. Hasnat Quaiyum, the president of Rashtro Songskar Andolon, hinted that the official announcement could occur today, with potential additions like Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab) and Gono Odhikar Parishad.
The NCP has been actively exploring partnership opportunities for several months, culminating in meetings to strategize for the upcoming elections. The emerging alliance is positioned as a “third force” distinct from the dominance of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
An unnamed senior NCP leader emphasized the aspiration to establish a significant political presence through alliances with like-minded parties, steering away from being a derivative of larger parties. Similarly, an AB Party representative highlighted the dual political and electoral nature of the alliance, aimed at sustained political activism beyond elections alone.
Upon its unveiling, the new alliance is expected to kickstart a cohesive campaign in preparation for the scheduled February elections next year.
