Convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, declined to respond to inquiries from US lawmakers on Monday. However, her lawyer indicated that she would be willing to provide information if she received clemency from US President Donald Trump. Maxwell, aged 64, currently serving a 20-year prison term for sex trafficking, was summoned by the House Oversight Committee to address her connections with Epstein. Instead of cooperating with the committee’s queries, the former British socialite utilized her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. In a released deposition recording, Maxwell appeared via video link, looking downwards while seated at a table in a Texas prison. The committee inquired about Maxwell and Epstein’s collaborators, their association with prominent individuals to evade scrutiny, and whether Trump had engaged in any sexual activities through their introductions. Clad in a plain beige outfit, Maxwell continuously asserted her Fifth Amendment right by stating, “I invoke my Fifth Amendment right to silence,” leading to an early cessation of the questioning. Maxwell’s attorney, David Markus, suggested that she would be willing to share her account if granted clemency by Trump. Markus stated, “If this Committee and the American public genuinely seek to uncover the unadulterated truth behind the events, there exists a clear course of action.”
