“Gang Conflict Suspected in Jubo Dal Leader’s Murder”

-

A police investigation suggested that the murder of Jubo Dal leader Golam Kibria in Pallabi may have been a result of a conflict with a gang associated with criminal activities. Kibria was fatally shot inside a shop in Pallabi on Monday evening. Authorities have identified individuals directly involved in the killing and are looking into whether it stemmed from political rivalries, underworld connections, or disputes over drug trade control in the area.

Local residents suspect that the murder was orchestrated by affiliates of known criminal Mamun, who has a history of involvement in drug trafficking, extortion, and land seizures in Pallabi. Kibria, who was previously aligned with Mamun, started opposing his drug operations after gaining influence following a recent political upheaval.

Mamun, also known as “Dha Block Mamun,” has a longstanding association with criminal activities in the area, which he currently oversees with his younger brother Mashiur. The brothers maintain connections with prominent underworld figure Ibrahim and the Shahadat group. According to sources close to Kibria, Mamun and his brothers have controlled illicit activities such as drug trading and extortion in Pallabi for years, with alleged support from a senior BGMEA leader during the previous government.

Following a recent political change, Kibria attempted to restrict the spread of drugs in the area, allegedly leading to tensions with Mamun and his associates. Kibria’s efforts to curb drug trade and extortion activities to enhance his popularity reportedly irked Mamun, prompting the fatal attack.

Kibria’s wife has filed a murder case against several individuals, including those named in the incident. One suspect has been arrested, and the police are actively pursuing others involved in the crime. The case details reveal that Kibria was ambushed by a group of assailants in a shop, resulting in multiple gunshot wounds to various parts of his body. He was later taken to his family’s residence nearby.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear, but Kibria’s growing political influence could have been a factor. Kibria, who co-owned the hardware shop where the incident occurred, was a well-known figure in the area. Recent violent incidents in the locality have been attributed to turf wars and personal conflicts among underworld figures.

The tragic incident occurred shortly after another noted criminal, Tariq Saif Mamun, was gunned down in a public area near Dhaka’s court premises.
