“From Cancer Survivor to Muay Thai Champion: Noshin Knight’s Inspiring Journey”

-

Farah Noshin Bhuiyan, also known as Noshin Knight, was faced with rebuilding her body after cancer had taken its toll, leaving her at a weight of 39 kilograms. Despite the risks of potential injury in the Muay Thai ring, she attributes her current state not to miracles but to discipline. In 2015, while pursuing studies in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, she was diagnosed with early-stage colon cancer, interrupting her academic aspirations set by her father, an assistant scientist.

Following a challenging 18-month treatment period, during which her weight dropped to a fragile 39 kilograms, she managed to overcome the disease. Despite the cancer’s retreat after chemotherapy, ongoing medical procedures like APC and regular biopsies serve as reminders of the potential return of the illness.

Surviving cancer marked a new beginning for Noshin. She noticed physical changes post-recovery and, feeling weakened, delved into Karate classes at her mother’s suggestion. Developing a passion for fitness, she attained a Karate Black Belt through rigorous training between 2016 and 2019. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic momentarily halted her progress, but she later transitioned to boxing and subsequently to Muay Thai, distinct from MMA due to its varied striking techniques.

Under the guidance of Coach Ishtiak Ahmed Chowdhury at Invictus BJJ & MMA, Noshin refined her skills for the Bangladesh Muay Thai circuit, culminating in her representation at the IFMA East Asian Muay Thai Championship in Hong Kong in December 2024. Despite a broken nose mid-match leading to a stoppage, Noshin’s determination continued, evident in her victory against a younger opponent at the “Double Horse Knockout Night 1” in Dhaka.

Looking ahead, she prepares for the Four Nation Muay Thai Championship in Pakistan, aiming to empower girls in Bangladesh through self-defense training rather than solely professional fighting. Dismissing the notion of fitness and combat sports as financially unstable, Noshin emphasizes the economic significance of sports careers and advocates for broader participation of girls in combat sports for confidence-building and self-defense.

Her vision extends beyond personal achievements, focusing on promoting Muay Thai in Bangladesh for institutional backing and fostering a culture of strength over slimness. Noshin’s journey, documented on her Instagram profile @noshinknight, exemplifies resilience, determination, and a commitment to continual growth and improvement.
