Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) apprehended German Galushchenko, the former Energy Minister, as he attempted to cross the country’s border. The arrest was made in connection with the ‘Midas’ case, a significant corruption scandal within Ukraine’s energy sector that shook the nation last year. Although the NABU did not explicitly name Galushchenko in their statement, he held the position of Energy Minister until his resignation in November.
The NABU stated that the initial investigative procedures are underway in adherence to legal requirements and court approvals, with further details expected to be disclosed. Galushchenko was among the ministers who stepped down in 2025 following the exposure of a major money-laundering scheme in the energy sector, believed to have been orchestrated by a close associate of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to NABU, the conspirators engineered a $100-million kickback operation to embezzle funds, leading to public outrage amidst widespread power disruptions caused by Russian assaults.
