Highlighting the crucial role of law enforcement in ensuring a fair election, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain emphasized that the upcoming parliamentary polls will serve as a significant test for law enforcement agencies. He mentioned that despite initial obstacles, the police have successfully streamlined their operations. Stressing the need for continued vigilance, Hossain warned that individuals disgruntled by electoral outcomes might try to incite chaos. The primary objective, he affirmed, is to conduct a seamless election and facilitate a smooth transition to the newly elected government.
Addressing a gathering of Rangpur district officials at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room, the adviser discussed the potential challenges associated with exporting potatoes, citing limited global demand as a key hurdle. He also underscored the importance of focusing on skilled labor for overseas employment, noting that unskilled workers face lower wages. Hossain emphasized the significance of providing efficient training for individuals seeking employment opportunities abroad, particularly in the nursing sector where numerous vacancies exist. Sending trained nurses overseas, he explained, could lead to improved income levels and benefit the nation.
In terms of livestock, Hossain highlighted the lucrative market for local cattle in Rangpur, pointing out the high demand for their meat, particularly in urban centers like Dhaka. He urged stakeholders to capitalize on this market potential through strategic livestock initiatives.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Md Enamul Ahsan, also saw the participation of key officials including Superintendent of Police Md Marufat Hossain, Civil Surgeon Dr Shaheen Sultana, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Tofayel Ahmed, and District Livestock Officer Dr Abu Zaid. The adviser’s visit to Rangpur spans four days, during which he is engaging with various local stakeholders on pertinent issues.
