The US Secret Service reported on the incident where their agents fatally shot an armed individual who breached the security perimeter of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. President Trump was away in Washington during the event that occurred at approximately 1:30 am (0630 GMT).
According to agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, the intruder, identified as a man in his early 20s, was carrying what seemed to be a shotgun and a fuel can near the north gate of the Mar-a-Lago property. Upon discovery, Secret Service agents engaged with the suspect and discharged their firearms, resulting in the individual’s death. Fortunately, no US officers sustained any injuries during the encounter. President Trump has faced various assassination threats in the past.
In a separate incident earlier this month, Ryan Routh, aged 59, who had conspired to assassinate the president at a Florida golf course in September 2024, just two months before the US election, received a life sentence in prison.
