A Bangladeshi expatriate lost his life in a violent confrontation between two factions of the BNP due to a land dispute in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila today. The tragic incident took place at 10:00 am in Kala village within Padmakar union.
The victim, identified as Mahbub Hossain, aged 40 and a resident of the village, had recently returned from Cambodia. Upon his return, he aligned himself with the faction led by local Jubo Dal leader Ziaur Rahman Zia, who is also his cousin. The clash stemmed from a disagreement over land belonging to their relatives, with the opposing faction being headed by ward-level BNP leader Humayun Molla.
According to Zia, members of the Humayun Group launched a brutal attack on Mahbub using machetes. Despite being rushed to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Efforts to contact Humayun for a statement were unsuccessful.
Dr. Faria Tahsin, a physician at the emergency department of Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, reported that the victim suffered severe head injuries from sharp weapons, along with wounds to his neck, back, and lower waist. OC Abdullah Al Mamun of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station mentioned that police presence was heightened to prevent further violence.
OC Abdullah Al Mamun also stated that following the completion of the initial investigation, an autopsy would be carried out on the victim’s body. The authorities are actively working to apprehend the individuals responsible for the attack.
