An explosion shook a tall residential building in the Bronx, New York today, causing a section from the floor to the roof to be blown off and alarming residents in the Mott Haven area. Robert Tucker, the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) Commissioner, mentioned that a collapse of a ventilation shaft linked to the boiler was suspected to be the source of the explosion. He stated that investigators would determine the exact cause. New York City Mayor Eric Adams assured that no injuries or fatalities were reported, although some residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure, as per local reports. A witness who contacted 911 after observing smoke near the building recounted that just before the call was transferred, a loud bang was heard, and then the building exploded. Aerial footage by WABC displayed a section of the public housing building where the wall was partially torn off. Emergency responders were observed navigating through piles of debris for inspection purposes. Building records from the city’s housing department indicate that there are no outstanding violations against the structure.
