Lionsgate has released the debut trailer for “Michael”, the highly awaited biographical film about Michael Jackson, helmed by director Antoine Fuqua. The preview will premiere in theaters ahead of “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t”, offering viewers a first look into the life and impact of the iconic late artist.

Jaafar Jackson, the real-life nephew of Michael, takes on the role of the legendary entertainer in the movie. The trailer kicks off with Jackson in the recording studio with Quincy Jones (portrayed by Kendrick Sampson), who announces, “I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this. The tracks are ready, the songs are set. Let’s start from the beginning.” The teaser then showcases glimpses of Jackson’s childhood, ascent to stardom, and his memorable performances, including “Thriller”, set to the rhythm of “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.”

The ensemble cast features Miles Teller as Jackson’s lawyer John Branca, Colman Domingo as his father Joe Jackson, Nia Long as his mother Katherine Jackson, Jessica Sula as LaToya Jackson, Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy, Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, and Kat Graham as Diana Ross.

Originally scheduled for release on October 3, 2025, “Michael” will now premiere in cinemas on April 24, 2026. Despite finishing filming in May 2024, the movie underwent additional shooting amid speculations of a potential split into two parts, though the trailer hints at a single release.

As per Lionsgate’s overview, “Michael” will delve into Jackson’s transformation into the King of Pop, presenting “a personal exploration of the life and lasting impact of one of the most influential, pioneering artists the world has seen.”

The supporting cast includes Liv Symone as Gladys Knight, Kevin Shinick as Dick Clark, KeiLyn Durrel Jones as Jackson’s longtime confidant Bill Bray, and Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones.

“Michael” is scripted by John Logan (“Rango”, “Alien: Covenant”) and produced by Graham King, John Branca, and John McClain, with David B. Householter taking on the role of executive producer.

The film vows to capture the brilliance and intricacy of the global superstar who reshaped music and performance for generations to come.
