Indian actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh has secured a nomination at the 2025 International Emmy Awards, further solidifying his global presence. The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences unveiled the full list of nominees, revealing Dosanjh’s spot in the Best Performance by an Actor category for his role in the film “Amar Singh Chamkila,” which also received a nod in the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series segment.
Expressing gratitude, Dosanjh took to Instagram Stories to acknowledge director Imtiaz Ali and Netflix India, stating, “It’s all because of Imtiaz Ali sir @netflix_in.” A total of 64 nominees in 16 categories were announced, with Dosanjh facing competition from David Mitchell for “Ludwig,” Oriol Pla for “Yo, Adicto,” and Diego Vasquez for “One Hundred Years of Solitude.”
In the movie “Amar Singh Chamkila” by Imtiaz Ali, Dosanjh portrays the controversial Punjabi folk singer who met a tragic end in the 1980s during the peak of his fame. Released on April 12, 2024, the Netflix production delves into Chamkila’s rapid ascent and untimely demise, shedding light on his bold lyrics addressing themes of love, rebellion, and societal truths. Parineeti Chopra stars as his wife Amarjot in the film.
Indian content has been gaining recognition at the International Emmys in recent times, with Netflix’s “Delhi Crime” clinching the Best Drama Series award in 2020 and comedian Vir Das earning accolades in 2021 for his special “Vir Das: For India.”
The 53rd International Emmy Awards are scheduled to take place in New York City on November 24, 2025.
