Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio is making a grand return to the silver screen with his highly awaited movie “One Battle After Another,” scheduled for a global debut on September 26. Bangladeshi viewers can look forward to witnessing the thrilling action-packed film on the same day, as Star Cineplex has been confirmed as the local distributor.
Under the direction of Paul Thomas Anderson, the movie draws inspiration from Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel “Vineland” and has been in development for over twenty years. DiCaprio takes on a pivotal role in the film, alongside a star-studded cast including Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infinity. DiCaprio, in an interview with the BBC, described the film as a reflection of societal norms, showcasing cultural divides and polarizations with a touch of satire and entertainment.
Combining elements of political satire, dark humor, and intense action sequences, the movie has already garnered critical acclaim. The Guardian has hailed it as “a narrative of rebellion, dissent, and the solitary hero — a narrative seldom explored in contemporary America.”
The storyline revolves around a group of former rebels who come together after sixteen years to rescue a colleague’s daughter, leading to a captivating blend of political intrigue and personal challenges. Reportedly, DiCaprio received a hefty paycheck of $20 million (approximately Tk 243 crore) for his role.
Filming commenced in June 2023, with principal photography spanning across various locations in the United States in 2024. Originally named “The Battle of Bactan Cross,” the movie underwent a title change to “One Battle After Another.”
Anderson, renowned for his success with “There Will Be Blood” in 2007, is anticipated to deliver another cinematic masterpiece through his collaboration with DiCaprio. The simultaneous release in Bangladesh promises an exhilarating experience for movie enthusiasts, granting them a rare opportunity to witness a Hollywood premiere in real-time.
