“Dhaka’s Nighttime Pulse: A Hidden World Emerges”

-

In Dhaka, the bustling daytime city transforms into a different realm at night. The chaos of traffic and noise fades away, giving the city a chance to breathe. While many find rest during the night, a dedicated few come alive to keep the city running smoothly.

Lokman, a vendor near Dhaka Medical College, finds solace in serving late-night customers, appreciating the manageable pace. On the other hand, Fazlur Bari, an ATM security guard, grapples with the loneliness and unease that accompany his nighttime duties.

As the city sleeps, a hidden world emerges. Street dogs patrol the streets, the homeless find refuge on pavements, and trucks deliver essential supplies, sustaining the city’s nocturnal economy. While some, like Jubayer Mahmud Khan, get a glimpse of a different Dhaka during their late-night commutes, others like Sauvik Debnath face safety concerns amidst the convenience of deserted roads.

For some, like a rickshaw puller, the night shift offers a chance for smoother rides and increased profits, despite fewer passengers. Nighttime in Dhaka reveals a raw and authentic side of the city, hidden from most, but lived and experienced by those who toil through the night. It’s a time of solitude, risk, and revelation, creating a parallel world within the bustling metropolis.
