Deadly Bus Crash Claims 25 Lives in Eastern Afghanistan

-

At least 25 individuals lost their lives and 27 sustained injuries following a bus overturning incident in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday, as officials informed AFP. This tragic event occurred on a highway near Kabul, en route to Kandahar, due to the driver’s negligence, stated Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the interior ministry. The injured individuals, numbering 27, were promptly taken to hospitals for treatment, although the severity of their injuries remains unspecified.

Afghanistan continues to grapple with frequent fatal traffic accidents, attributed to factors such as substandard road conditions resulting from prolonged conflicts, reckless driving practices on highways, and a lack of adequate oversight. Just a week prior to this incident, a devastating crash in western Herat province claimed the lives of 78 individuals, including several children, when a bus transporting migrants from Iran collided with a motorcycle and a truck. Notably, in December last year, the country witnessed two separate bus accidents involving a fuel tanker and a truck on a central Afghan highway, resulting in a death toll of at least 52 individuals.
