“Curfew in Nepal Town Amid Political Clashes”

-

A curfew was implemented in a town in Nepal yesterday after clashes occurred between young activists and supporters of the former ruling party that was ousted during a violent uprising in September. The curfew, now in place for a second consecutive day, was enforced in Simara, located in Nepal’s Bara district to the south of Kathmandu, as confirmed by a local official. The decision to impose the curfew came after young demonstrators staged a protest on Wednesday while a gathering was being organized by the deposed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s party, the Communist Party of Nepal – Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML). Tensions escalated with skirmishes erupting, particularly near the airport, reportedly triggered by alleged assaults on the protesters by CPN-UML members.
