There were dramatic scenes on Coronation Street this week, as a hostage situation unfolded at the prison.
Rob Donovan appeared to save the day when fellow inmate Matty Radcliffe threatened prison guard Mandy with a knife, also threatening Rob’s son Bobby. Of course it soon emerged Rob and Matty were plotting together, or at least Rob had ordered Matty to act out so that he looked the hero.
Viewers are now convinced Rob is planning something amid him agreeing to be a kidney donor for his poorly sister Carla Connor. But he might not be the only one up to something, as a scene involving prison guard Mandy left fans convinced she was being secretive.
Mandy debuted in scenes with Rob, with her on standby as the prisoners sat with their visitors. It didn’t take long for fans to believe she was acting strangely though and seemed “dodgy”.
A scene in particular where she gave Rob a bible left fans sure something was going on. They predicted a note or an object was smuggled to Rob via the bible, and that she might be working with him.
Amid fans predicting Rob might plot to flee, they took to X to share their theories on whether Mandy was a corrupt officer. But could she be helping killer Rob?
One viewer posted: “That female prison guard is dodgy af and is in on it. She probably smuggled a note or something to Rob in that Bible.” Another viewer agreed: “I agree! She gave him the Bible and looked dodgy, was in the visiting area looked dodgy.”
A third fan wrote: “She’s definitely in cahoots with Rob. Which is why I think she’s going to do his bidding outside buy watching Carla and family and reporting back to Rob.” A further theory on the possible twist read: “I’m calling it now! Rob is having it off with the female prison guard!
“When it’s time to go the hospital to donate the kidney to Carla she will be one of his guards and will help him escape!” It comes as fans were stunned when they realised where they’d seen Mandy before.
It was shared by viewers that the actress is Rebecca Atkinson, famously known for her role as Karen Maguire in Channel 4’s hit series Shameless from 2004 to 2013. One fan exclaimed: “It’s Karen Maguire from shameless! ” Another added: “I was going crazy trying to remember where i knew her from!”. A third commented: “I recognised the prison officer/guard straight away. Loved her when she played Karen in Shameless.”
