They believe that the city should explore more cost-effective options, citing a potential supplier who could provide the same two-stall unit for half the price. Questions have been raised about how a financially strained city like Los Angeles can justify the extra $500,000 expenditure for the restroom facility.
Situated near the iconic Hollywood sign, the 160-acre Runyon Canyon park draws a large number of visitors daily, including hikers, dog walkers, and tourists, with occasional celebrity sightings along its scenic trails. Currently, the park relies on basic porta potties, which some find inadequate for the park’s two million annual visitors.
In response to the criticism, a spokesperson for Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass emphasized the importance of enhancing park facilities for the community’s benefit. The restroom project was reportedly approved following community consultations by the Recreation and Parks Board.
