Limon Mia, aged 34, who is the primary suspect in the tragic killing of the teenage son of Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman and the attempted murder of the judge’s wife, provided a statement of confession in court on Tuesday.
The confession was made under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure at the Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court-2, as confirmed by Deputy Commissioner Gaziur Rahman of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.
In a detailed seven-page account given on Tuesday, Limon revealed that he had been receiving financial aid from the judge’s wife, Tasmin Nahar, for a considerable period. Their acquaintance began years ago during a Quantum Foundation program in Gaibandha, following his dismissal from the army in 2018. Gradually, seeking financial support became a routine for Limon, as mentioned in the statement.
As time passed, Tasmin Nahar started to distance herself and became irritated with Limon, eventually ignoring his calls. This change in behavior agitated Limon further. On November 13, he visited the judge’s residence in Rajshahi with the intention of confronting her. When she refused him entry and tried to contact the police, Limon forcibly entered the house and assaulted her with a knife he had carried with him.
Upon hearing his mother’s cries for help, 16-year-old Tawsif Rahman Sumon rushed to her aid. Tragically, Limon also attacked the boy with the knife, resulting in his untimely death. The woman sustained severe injuries during the altercation. Limon himself sustained wounds from the knife during the struggle and later disposed of the weapon through a window, according to the statement.
Magistrate Mamunur Rashid meticulously recorded Limon’s confession during a five-hour session, starting from 3:00 pm and concluding at 8:00 pm. Following the confession, Limon was remanded to Rajshahi Central Jail.
Earlier this month, police disclosed that Limon had issued threats to the judge’s family following his apprehension in Sylhet. The murder case was filed by Judge Abdur Rahman on November 14, a day after the tragic incident occurred.
Limon, the son of Solaiman Shahid, a prominent figure in BNP from Fulchari upazila in Gaibandha, underwent two rounds of remand before providing his confession. Police authorities have indicated that they will promptly submit the charge sheet in the case.
