A new film adaptation inspired by the iconic song “Coffee House” by Manna Dey is set to hit the silver screen, with filming set to commence on October 7. The movie will be shot in picturesque locations across North Bengal and Kolkata.
Produced by Suan Silver Screen, the project will bring together Roopa Ganguly and Dolon Roy on screen after a long hiatus. The narrative revolves around the six beloved characters from the song—Sujata, Rama, Nikhilesh, D’Souza, Amal, and Moidul.
The storyline of the film continues from where the song ends. Sujata, returning from overseas due to a longing for her roots, mysteriously vanishes from an old tea estate in North Bengal. Her granddaughter Aheri, who has recently returned from Britain, stumbles upon a diary, aged letters, and the untold tales of the six friends. Unraveling a blend of nostalgia and revelations about love, loss, and fate, the movie delves into a captivating mystery.
Roopa Ganguly takes on the role of Sujata, while Priyanka Bhattacharjee portrays the young Rama and Dolon Roy as the elder version of the character. The ensemble cast includes Shubashish Ghosh from Mumbai, along with Soumya Mukherjee and Anuradha Mukherjee.
Further heightening the excitement, Arijit Singh will lend his vocals to a revamped rendition of Manna Dey’s timeless classic “Coffee House.” The song, deeply ingrained in the cultural heritage of Bengalis, continues to resonate as a beloved melody cherished by multiple generations.
